Toxicity and Some Enzymatic Properties and Activities in the Venoms of Crotalidae, Elapidae and Viperidae.

Abstract

The i.v. and i.p. toxicities and some enzymatic properties of representative venoms of the families Crotalidae, Elapidae and Viperidae were determined. Differences between the venoms of the three genera in toxicity and enzymatic activity were considerable. Variations in enzymatic potencies and toxicities were most pronounced in the Crotalidae. No correlation was found between enzyme composition, enzyme potency and toxicity in any of the venoms investigated. (Author)
