The Synthesis of Potential 3-Phenylquinoline Antimalarials a-Aminomethyl-3-Phenyl-5-Quinolinemethanols.

Abstract

Thirty three novel 3-aryl-5-substituted-quinolines have been synthesized and characterized. Nine of these compounds have been submitted for antimalarial screening. Four compounds in this group were alpha-aminomethyl-3-aryl-5-quinoline- methanols with different substituents in the aromatic rings. Of those compounds in this group which have been tested, two (AV-96591 and AW-23879) show some activity against P. berghei infections in mice at s.c. dose levels of 160 mg/kg or lower. Reports on the phototoxicity of these compounds have not been issued. (Author)
