Circulation Control by Slot Suction on a Circular Cylinder Preliminary Measured Force Data,

Abstract

Suction coefficients from zero to unity were applied to a single-slotted commercial steel circular cylinder at low free-stream Mach numbers (mn < 0.15, R = 170,000 to 680,000). Balance measured force data for a full range of slot position in the upper surface are presented and discussed. The results indicate slot position and suction coefficient to be powerful means of controlling cylinder lift. Measurements at zero slot flow demonstrated that the reversed direction as cylinder Reynolds number was changed through the critical value. (Author)
