The Dynamics of Behavioral Action and Reaction in International Conflict

Abstract

The analysis reported can be characterized as a dynamic study of international conflict. It is based on the notion that 'behavior begets behavior.' A series of questions underlie this form of analysis: What are the dimensions of variation in conflict received by nations from the international system over a series of twelve monthly periods. What are the time dimensions of conflict sent by nations to the system for the same period and What are the over time relationships between conflict sent and received by nations. Answers to these questions were arrived at by factor analysis and canonical regression of conflict data collected from the New York Times for 1963.
