Transfer as a Function of Task Difficulty in Pursuit-Rotor and Paired-Associate Learning.

Abstract

The focus of the research was on the investigation of the generality of psychological findings across different kinds of tasks. The approach taken was to compare the influence of task difficulty on the performance in training and transfer of a paired-associate and pursuit-rotor task. The report documents some of the difficulties connected with empirical attempts to answer the question of whether variables affect learning in the same way on different tasks. The report also points out some problems with the concept of 'task difficulty'. Suggestions for remedying these difficulties are given. (Author)
