Discussion of the Operation of a New Distillation Column Design for Oil Fractions,
Abstract
The design and performance of distillation columns for petroleum fractions specially constructed in a plant originally lacking such columns is described. The columns were provided inside the vacuum column by partitioning the unused zone of the latter above the blank segments of the grooved plates. The main effect of introducing the distillation columns was removal of lower-boiling components and narrowing of their boiling ranges. The actual separation obtained was equivalent to 1 theoretical plate in the case of 2nd and 3rd oil fractions and equivalent to 2 theoretical plates in the column for the 4th fraction. (Author)
