Investigation of Advanced Methods of Visual Inspection of Cannon Tube Bores.

Abstract

The present method and equipment used for visually inspecting cannon tube bores, although adequate, requires the operator to continuously observe the bore surface through an optical system. This method causes undue eye fatigue and discomfort to the operator and increases inspection time, costs and the probability of human error in the evaluation of a surface defect. The use of the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system for visual inspection of cannon bores provides for group viewing and evaluation by technical teams, simplifies the task by reducing inspection time, eliminates possible human error due to eye fatigue.
