Computer Synthesis of Radiation Patterns. 1. Electromagnetic Radiation from Current Loops above the Surface of a Conducting Cone,

Abstract

The purpose of this work was to demonstrate that a particular preselected radiation pattern can be obtained for some desired antenna geometry by utilizing a new FORTRAN program written for use on an IBM-7094 computer. The selected radiation pattern is generated within the program and is compared with a computed pattern determined from a set of elements making up the antenna. The positions and phases of these elements are varied until the computed program matches, in some sense, the desired program at many angle points. The only requirement for this method is that the fields radiated by each element must either be approximated or calculated from first principles; i.e., Maxwell's equations. (Author)
