A Study of New Radiacmeter Power Sources.

Abstract

Characteristics of the power sources specified for OCD CDV-715 RADIACS were studied. A correlation was developed between D-cell age and the average number of hours that a D-cell can operate a CDV-715 continuously after the D-cells were stored. The storage was in RADEF kit locations typical of the contiguous 48 of the United States. The study experiments also included measurement of voltage under load at ambient and at the extreme temperatures specified as the operating limits of the CDV-715. The tests also were applied to several feasible substitutes for the cells now being supplied. Cost comparisons were made for a number of realistic alternate RADIAC power source supply procedures. Specific procedures and topics for further study are recommended. (Author)
