Beta Dosimetry for Fallout Hazard Evaluation.

Abstract

A small beta dosimeter was developed for use in biological effects experiments. The dosimeter was calibrated and tested in a series of laboratory experiments, including a uniform volume source exposure, a point source exposure, surface roughness exposures, and an environmental resistance test. Dosimeters were then used in cooperation with biological experiments being conducted by other investigators, including a plant community exposure, a corn plot exposure, three wheat and potato exposures, and a field test of surface roughness. The measured data were then compared with calculated values and, in general, agreement was found to be satisfactory. (Author)
