Compressibility of Frozen Ground,

Abstract

The monograph presents the results of investigations of the deformation of frozen ground under compression without the possibility of lateral expansion; also given are the values of the compressibility coefficients of some typical frozen grounds and the temperature limits are given for the most clearly expressed manifestation of compressibility for grounds of different mechanical composition. These investigations have made it possible to consider the physical nature of the process of compression of frozen ground and establish some general laws of the compaction of these grounds and also determine the dependence of frozen grounds on their composition, temperature, ice content and cryogenic texture.
