Advanced Development of Lumped Mass, Finite Difference Methods for Dynamic Beam Analysis.

Abstract

Further development of a new lumped mass, finite difference method to treat beam dynamics (including shear and moment wave travel) is presented to aid understanding and application of this method. An example problem, the C13 Steam Catapult subjected to vertical shock, shows some of the complexities, (nonlinearities, nonhomogenities, etc.), which can be treated illustrating use of the method in predictive dynamic analysis. This capability indicates the likely extension of the method to the dynamics of complex structures subjected to oblique shock loading. (Author)
