Fabrication of Graphite Tubes.

Abstract

A fabrication method for the production of 1-inch diameter graphite reinforced epoxy test cylinders was developed. 198 test cylinders featuring various unidirectional and multidirectional fiber orientations were fabricated. Problems involving the preparation of prepreg were encountered and solved. Problems with higher angle fiber orientations were partially solved and it was concluded that unidirectional fiber angles over 60 degrees yielded excessive scrappage rates in cylinder production. With the exception of the high fiber angles, the ply-wrap fabrication technique proved reliable and efficient and indicated potential for wider application. (Author, modified-PL)
