Maximum Wave Height Probabilities for a Random Number of Random Intensity Storms.

Abstract

A very general model is presented for the probability distribution function for wave heights in storms with time-varying intensities. Some of the possible choices for functions in the model are listed and discussed. Techniques for determining the 'equivalent rectangular storm' corresponding to a given historically recorded storm are developed. The final model formula expresses the probabilities for a random number of random length storms each with random intensities. (Author)
