Multipath and Diffraction Effects of Structures on Localizer Systems.

Abstract

The document describes the work performed in developing an organized approach for analyzing the effects of multipath scattering and diffraction from hangars, buildings, and other discontinuities on the performance of Instrument Landing System (ILS) Localizer facilities. A mathematical model was developed and computer programs were designed. Also, closed form solutions were developed for simple geometric surfaces such as flat walls and triangles, and a general arithmetic integration approach was developed for the more complex structural configurations.
