Neutron and Gamma-Ray Measurements with Nuclear Track Detectors.

Abstract

One of the more significant new developments in the field of neutron detection has been made possible by the discovery of a new class of charged particle detectors called nuclear track detectors. Cellulose nitrate, cellulose triacetate, cellulose acetate butyrate, polycarbonate, polyester, polypropylene, polyethylene, and PVC are investigated to determine their usefulness as nuclear track detectors. The feasibility of using dielectric plastics as high exposure gamma ray detectors was investigated. The results indicate that Lexan polycarbonate can be utilized in the high gamma fields of testing environments. (P.S.-PL)
