Melting Points of Metallic Elements and Selected Compounds.

Abstract

A comprehensive literature survey of the published melting points of 168 chemicals including metallic elements, intermetallics, beryllides, borides, carbides, halides, nitrides, oxides, and sulfides was conducted. The melting points compiled are presented both in Kelvin and in degrees Fahrenheit. Original references were used whenever possible. Using various criteria, such as purity of sample, test method and equipment, instrumentation, etc., an evaluation of the data was made to determine 'best values'. Only data actually found in the literature are reported (no calculated mean values) and those considered most reliable indicated by being 'boxed in'. A few solid-to-solid transition points are also presented, and the melting points given are limited primarily to the congruent type. (Author)
