CAMA (Computer-Aided Mathematical Analysis): A General Description
Abstract
The paper describes CAMA (Computer-Aided Mathematical Analysis), which is a system that attempts to handle all conceivable mathematical operations, from simple numeric procedures to complex algebraic or set-theoretic manipulations. CAMA operates in a timesharing environment with a large central computer and a remote terminal computer with graphical devices. Some of the features of CAMA are: the input and output of mathematical symbols in their usual mathematical representation; the ability to manipulate these symbols according to predefined algebraic laws; the definition by the user of other algebraic laws; the definition of symbols with user-prescribed meanings; the automatic translation of expressions or equations into any of several languages; and numerical calculations. The user can invoke any of these tasks through the graphical terminal.
