Problems Relating to Amido-Derivatives of Metals and Metalloids.
Abstract
The chemistry of the novel Ti(II) and Ti(III) amides, such as Ti(NMe2)2, Ti(NMe2)3 and (Pi-C5H5)2TiNMe2 is described. Physical properties, including i.r., u.v., n.m.r., e.s.r., and mass spectra have been measured and interpreted structurally. The compounds are highly reactive and provide convenient sources for other d1 and d2 Ti complexes. The polymerisation of acrylonitrile initiated by titanium tetradimethylamide is described and discussed in some detail. A mechanism which adequately accounts for the behaviour is suggested and the kinetic consequences of the scheme are related to the experimental data. Related systems are described. (Author)
