Solitary Wave Phenomena in the Sozotron.

Abstract

A correlation has been made between the observed growth of longitudinal signal at late times in the NRL electron storage ring (Sozotron) and the behavior of a set of nonlinear dispersive partial differential equations describing the behavior, in one dimension, of a charge fluid in a perfectly conducting pipe. The signal is seen to be due to recurrences of solitary waves, 'solitons', in a low enough frequency mode to be observable by the low pass monitoring system. (Author)
