Synthesis of Polyquinoxalines Containing Carbonyl Groups in the Polymer Chain,

Abstract

The synthesis of five new polyquinoxalines from 3,3',4,4'-tetraaminobenzophenone and aromatic bisglyoxals is described. The polymers were thoroughly characterized. The inherent viscosities range from 0.55 to 2.05 dl/g, and their polymer decomposition temperatures range from 440 - 520C. Unlike the unsubstituted polyquinoxalines, the phenyl substituted polyquinoxalines have good solubility in phenolic and certain chlorinated solvents. They also show considerably better thermal-oxidative stability. (Author)
