Predicting Human Performance. 1. Estimating the Probability of Visual Detection

Abstract

The report is one in a series intended to develop methods or models which maximize the use of the scientific literature as a basis for predicting human performance. Such performance has been described as falling into a few simple classes in which the probability of detection, p(D), the reaction time, number correct, etc., are each part of the definition of a unique class of performance. The document is concerned with sensory performance in target detection, defined in terms of the p(D) of a flash of light.
