The Solution of N Simultaneous Second Order Coupled Differential Equations by the Finite Difference Method,

Abstract

A set of N coupled second order simultaneous differential equations are expressed in finite difference form. The coefficient matrix of the resulting set of algebraic equations appears as a set of NxN submatrices clustered in tridiagonal fashion about the main diagonal. A matrix version of the tridiagonal elimination method is used to solve the algebraic equations. Two examples are given to illustrate how the top and bottom rows of submatrices can be altered to satisfy boundary conditions. (Author)
