Currents and Water Exchange in Dnestrovskiy Liman (O Techeniyakh i Vodoobmene Dnestrovskogo Limana),

Abstract

The existing current pattern in Dnestrovskiy liman, oriented in NW-SE direction, is discussed, pointing out its variations with seasons and years, which are induced by variations in precipitation and winds. In addition, the salinity variations are accounted for by using actual measurements and calculations. As the Dnestr water is increasingly used for irrigation, the existing current pattern and salinity values are changing. This effect will increase when the plan of excavating a canal connecting Danube with the Dnestr liman is materialized. Calculations based on measurements demonstrate the possible changes in water balance, currents and salinity. (Author)
