Motion of a Ship at the Free Surface.

Abstract

Forced harmonic heaving motion of a ship at the free surface of an inviscid incompressible fluid is analyzed. Added mass and damping are determined using finite element techniques. Iso-parametric elements with curved boundaries allow accurate representation of the hull shape. A computer program is developed and results are found to agree closely with previously obtained theoretical and experimental results. (Author)
