Kinetics of Synthesis and Decomposition Reactions of Ionic Compounds Containing N-F Cations.
Abstract
NF4AsF6 decomposes in a manner similar to O2BF4, in that an equilibrium dissociation, presumably to NF5: NF4AsF6 = NF5 + AsF6, is followed by rapid decomposition of the less table component. Matrix isolation of the decomposition products failed to give evidence of the presence of NF5. Isotopic exchange experiments are being carried out. Attempts to fluorinate NaBrO3 with O2F2 did not produce bromine-containing volatile products, probably due to the low temperatures involved. BrO2 reacted readily with O2F2 at -126C to form BrF5 and unstable intermediates, which have not yet been identified. A study of the properties of bromine oxides is being conducted preparatory to a more complete study of their fluorination. (Author)
