An Interferometer System for the Measurement of the Azimuth of Radar Echoes from Meteor Trails,

Abstract

To improve the measurement of the azimuth direction of arrival of radar echoes at 36.8 MHz, a digitally controlled phase sequence interferometer technique has been developed for incorporation into the UNH/AFCRL meteor trails radar system. Phase measurements are made with respect to a common calibration pulse inserted between successive echoes. Preliminary tests indicate an azimuth measurement capability of better than plus or minus 2 degrees when used in conjuction with an elevation measurement system of comparable accuracy. (Author)
