On the Response Time of On-Line Retrieval Systems,

Abstract

In the report the results of an investigation of on-line retrieval systems are presented. The report is divided into two chapters. The first chapter is an analysis of some queuing models. The result is a formula relating search time, response time, and the number of terminals when requests are processed in batches. In the next chapter, response times of linear and inverted files are evaluated. One at a time and batch processing are compared. (Author)
