Experimental Investigation of the Efficiency of Modular Geared Electromechanisms in a Vacuum,

Abstract

A report is given of an experimental investigation of the efficiency of modular gearings (such as found in the control equipment of commerical aircraft) operating in a vacuum up to about 10(minus superscript 6) torr. The test unit was developed by the author and is discussed briefly. Graphs are presented which reflect the relationship of the efficiency of the electro-mechanical gearings to the degree of vacuum and the rpm of the gearings, with no lubrication and under no load.
