Variational Formulation of Finite-Displacement Analysis,

Abstract

Derivations of several variational principles for the incremental large deformation problems are made based on the second variation of the variational functionals. Finite element analyses using improved incremental solution procedures are then established. Included as examples are applications to the large deflection solutions of a low arch and shell of revolution under lateral pressure loadings. For the latter problem of the formulation is based on a mixed model using Reissner's theory of axisymmetric shells. (Author)
