A Measure of Dimensional Complexity for Multidimensional Systems.

Abstract

The study is concerned with the specifically multidimensional properties of systems. A set of four integers, called the 'dimensionality' of a system, derived from set theoretic considerations, is proposed as a measure of the dimensional complexity of a system. The relevance of the dimensionality to the investigation of large scale systems is established. It is shown that the dimensionality provides information on such features as deterministic and statistical linkages between variables, and consistencies and inconsistencies in system data. (Author)
