System and Personal Variables as Predictors of Individual Adoption Behavior.
Abstract
The study attempts to predict individual adoption behavior related to fallout shelter innovations using system variables and personal variables. System variables include the general situation and civil defense agency activity. Personal variables include individual status-roles, individual general orientations, and individual civil defense orientations. Data is utilized from the Integrated Management Information System and the 1968 National Civil Defense Survey. Three analysis procedures were used in the prediction; zero-order correlation and regression, multi-variable correlation and regression, and network (path) analysis. Each analysis yields its particular predictions of individual adoption behavior. Overall findings indicate the relatively larger influence of personal status-roles and individual orientations in the predictions compared to others. Civil defense activity is especially non-influential in predicting adoption behavior. (Author)
