Static Characteristics of Gas-Dynamic Bearings,

Abstract

Discussion is presented of the principles of operation of dynamic gas bearings, and their performance under various conditions. The advantages, shortcomings, and applications of gas bearings are examined. Guidelines are proposed for selecting materials with identical thermal expansion coefficients, the optimum clearances, and proper surface hardness. The principal characteristics of gas bearings are outlined, and a computer method for solving the bearing equations is proposed. (Author)
