Theoretical Ground Motion Predictions Supporting the HEST Program,

Abstract

The report describes the computations done to predict, design or support the experimental program. MINIDIHEST 1 and 2, and PLANEWAVE 1 are computations done to predict ground motion resulting from relatively simple arrays of alluvium (MINIDIHEST) and layered limestone-shale (PLANEWAVE). PLANEWAVE 2 are computations done to design an experimental explosives array which would produce a plane wave in the ground having a specified intensity and rate of attenuation at a particular range. Another computation predicted the actual ground motion resulting from this experimental array. Merry-Go-Round presents computationally predicted ground motion in Cedar City granite. The parametric studies relate a series of computations which predicted the effect of variation of the explosives array on resulting ground motion as a function of range. (Author)
