Reliability of Data Transmission Over Radio-Relay Channels,
Abstract
In an analysis of data-transmission reliability over radio-relay channels, the author cites figures of 4 garbled symbols per 10,000 transmitted over a 384-km-long link operating with RM-24 equipment and 4 garbled per 100,000 transmitted over a 150-km-long link worked with RTA-24. Errors were found to be primarily of the 'burst' type. Time-division multiplexing and the Hungarian-produced DM-400/6 delta modulation equipment are recommended for use on industrial railroad communication circuits. A comparative table is presented showing the probability of error for a variety of circuit types. (Author)
