Introducing Majority Redundancy to Increase the Reliability of Control Digital Computers,

Abstract

Majority-voting structures with singular or multiple interconnections are analyzed. Formulas are derived for both types of structures to be used in calculating the maximum attainable reliability and also the number of redundant units required to guarantee a given reliability level. It is shown that the majority-voting structures with multiple interconnections and redundancy factor of n - three are more suitable than others for increasing the reliability of control computers. If one considers that the basic computer is a serial structure made up of elements with exponential reliability behavior then the derived formulas may be used for designing the introduced majority-voting redundancy. These design methods are given. (Author)
