Spillway for Stockton Dam, Sac River, Missouri: Hydraulic Model Investigation.

Abstract

The spillway for Stockton Dam was studied on a 1:60-scale comprehensive model and a 1:100-scale section model to determine flow conditions in the approach channel and the performance of various elements of the structure. Particular emphasis was placed upon the selection of a stilling basin which would operate satisfactorily with tailwater depths insufficient for ideal performance of a hydraulic jump-type basin. Three alternate designs were investigated in an attempt to effect economies in construction costs. A stilling basin (type 3) was developed which permitted a reduction in the size of basin elements and permitted the basin elevation to be raised 5 ft. (Author)
