Numerical Analog for a Model Vacuum-Air Transport System.

Abstract

An experimental facility is being operated which is capable of hydrodynamically simulating a full-scale pneumatic tube transportation system. This system includes a tube of 1800 foot length and 1 foot diameter, an instrumented vehicle, and a compressor capable of propelling the vehicle at high speed. A mathematical model is presented which also simulates the tube system. This model uses numerical techniques to provide a comparison between analytical results and the limited experimental results. The operating characteristics of a prototype system are presented using these analytical results. (Author)
