Permeability of Polymers to Organic Fluids. Part 1.

Abstract

An improved permeability apparatus has been developed and compared with previous types. The new apparatus overcomes most of the disadvantages of the older types and is shown to give consistent results. The qualitative effects of certain variables including temperature, and a method of calculating permeabilities have been assessed. The permeability result of polyethylene and nitrile rubber to standard test fluid are presented. The standard test fluid was prepared, consisting of 30:70 (volume percent) toluene/iso-octane mixture.
