Theoretical Studies of Defect Motion in Crystals.

Abstract

A final technical report on the work done under the Grant is presented. The principal accomplishments described are: (1) The development of a new quantum rate theory for the motion of defects in crystals which includes thermal activation and quantum mechanical tunneling on an equal footing. (2) The development of a new method for the numerical solution of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation which is substantially faster (by a factor of about 30) than previously available methods.
