Concept Development of a Heavy Duty Oil Containment System for Use on the High Seas. Volume I.

Abstract

The report presents the results of studies and tests of a heavy duty oil containment system. The system is capable of air transportation to the vicinity of its intended use. Deployment is accomplished using larger Coast Guard vessels or navy salvage ships. The design is intended for long deployment periods. The barrier concept described herds the oil into a containment area designed using multi booms to minimize entrainment losses. The barrier design uses flooded sections of dynamic and static stability and non flooded sections for buoyancy. (Author)
