Transmission of Digital Signals Over Cable.

Abstract

The results of a theoretical and experimental investigation for the design of an optimum digital transmission system are presented in the report. The objective of the investigation was to provide a basis for design of future military multichannel digital transmission systems. A fundamental study of a digital cable transmission system shows that a complete system can be made using two subsystem building blocks. These subsystems are a high level multilink linear analog channel and a time-amplitude decision regenerator. An optimum band limited design uses Nyquist Digital Transmission. The overall design is based upon minimizing errors due to signal dependent and signal independent error producing disturbances. The results of experiments transmitting 5 MHz digital signals over 5 miles of Cable CX-11230 using the multilink linear analog approach are given. (Author)
