A Comparison of Mechanical Conical Scan and Pseudo-Monopulse Angle Tracking Systems,

Abstract

The equivalence of synthetic conical scan (pseudo-monopulse) to mechanical conical scan is shown. A comparison of system noise temperatures in the angle tracking systems is made among mechanical conical-scan systems, single-preamplifier synthetic conical-scan systems, and three-preamplifier synthetic conical-scan systems. It is shown that synthetic conical-scan systems compare favorably with mechanical conical-scan systems when high values of slope are available from the monopulse comparator and when used in applications where modest tracking accuracy (in the order of 0.1 beamwidth) is acceptable.
