Synoptico-Climatological and Heliogeophysical Long-Term Weather Forecasting,

Abstract

Methods of forecasting of monthly and seasonal mean values of climatological elements are discussed in terms of synoptic climatology. Problems in adjacent fields are mentioned. The author gives a review of works carried out in this field and offers her own technique for forecasting of monthly temperature anomalies over the European territory of the U.S.S.R. The first six chapters of Part I of the book represent a review of the investigations of the fundamental problems of the forecast of monthly and seasonal anomalies of the climatological elements. According to the author, such problems are the following: use of teleconnections, analysis of the influence of the earth's surface on the formation of the circulation processes and anomalies of the meteorological regime, comprehension of the cyclic fluctuations. Besides the general statements, T. V. Pokrovskaya discusses rather in detail the problems of the southern oscillation of the atmospheric pressure and the quasi-biennial stratospheric and tropospheric fluctuations. (Author)
