Heavy-Volume Computer Processing of Operational Telegraph Information,

Abstract

Operative control is a basic problem in the development of systems of automization. The article deals with the structure of subscriber telegraph communications, with switching of channels at a computer center, and the principles for devising a program for processing data. Possible errors by the operator are analyzed. Problems in operative control railroads can be solved more quickly on electronic digital computers with the use of existing telegraph lines. In the processing of data on computers with direct input from telegraph lines it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of the transmitted information and, especially, the variable length of a line in complicated master tapes. It is necessary to standardize the codes used in such systems. (Author)
