On Connection of a Photo Receiver and Electronic Loop in Optical Communications Systems,

Abstract

The considered analysis of the circuit connecting a receiver of optical signals in an amplifier stage and the proposed criterion of optimal connection according to the maximum of the effective signal-to-noise ratio mu are without the disadvantages of the criterion of the minimum noise coefficient or an a arbitrary signal-to-noise ratio, which are ambiguous conditions for best detection. From the analysis presented, in particular, different regularities result for the change in quality of detection as the resistance R sub mu changes. Moreover, the influence of the signal shape on the conditions for connecting a photo-receiver to an electronic circuit becomes evident, which results in the correct formulation of the problem of optimal signal shape.
