On the Stability of Conical Shells under Dynamical Longitudinal Compression,

Abstract

The stability of thin conical shells subjected to dynamical longitudinal compression is investigated. A similar problem was examined in the paper by SAL'NIKOV, in which equations of motion were obtained on the basis of the theory of local stability which agreed with the equations of cylindrical shells with a fictitious radius. On this basis, the deductions made for cylindrical shells are extended to conical shells in the paper by SAL'NIKOV. However, in the general case the behavior of conical shells under dynamical longitudinal compression has a number of peculiarities, as is shown. (Author)
