Interaction Effects in Solids Using Transition Metal and Rare Earth Ions as Probes.

Abstract

The report summarizes research conducted in the Physics Department of the University of Canterbury, Christchruch, New Zealand in solid state physics during the period 1967-1970 with the support of the grant AF-AFOSR-1275-67. The research described falls under the headings: Localized modes of crystal lattices; Jahn-Teller interactions; Far-infrared and Raman spectroscopic studies; Spectroscopic properties of palladium and platinum group complexes; Study of phase transitions using impurity ions as probes and Theoretical studies.
