Some Character Designs for the Russian Alphabet for Use with a Graphical Output Device,

Abstract

The NPL Graphical Output System is a fully comprehensive system which allows many different types of diagram to be produced on practically any type of output peripheral. A wide range of software characters are provided in the scheme and a description of the construction of these characters has been given in a previous report. The characters include upper and lower case Roman letters, upper and lower case Greek letters, numerals, mathematical and logical symbols, punctuation signs, and a set of point plotting symbols. As far as possible the character designs were based upon the OCR 'B' character set which is generally accepted as a standard for character recognition purposes. The authors have used the same general method to produce designs for the Russian alphabet, both upper and lower case, and full details are given. In general the characters were based upon those used in printing. (Author)
