Hydrological Character of Water Masses in the NE Coastal Sector of S America and the Distribution of Commercial Concentrations of Tuna (Gidrologicheskaya Kharakteristika Vodnykh Mass v Rayone Severo-Vostochnogo Poberezhya Yuzhnoi Ameriki i Raspredelenie Promyslovykh Skoplenii Tuntsa),

Abstract

The 4th tuna expedition of the AtlantNIRO investigated the NE coastal sector of S America from February to May 1963. The main objective of the work was to determine the prospects of opening tuna fisheries in the area. The upper 200m water layer was studied, recording the distribution of temperature, salinity and phosphorus. It was found that there are 3 hydrological zones in the area, which are determined by the Guiana Current, Equatorial Countercurrent and N Equatorial Current. (Author)
